Andover Business Meeting 2020 Kickoff
Last year, the Town of Andover hired Ann Ormond, Director of Business, Arts, and Culture, to promote the downtown and attract more arts and cultural events. Ann kicked off the new year with an Andover Business Meeting in Old Town Hall.
In attendance were about 20 business owners and employees. Ann's colleagues Paul Materazzo, Director of Planning, and Lisa Schwarz, Senior Planner, AICP were also there. As well as myself — Linda Lecomte, REALTOR® — keeping you in the know on the Andover lifestyle and real estate market.
2020 Downtown Events Calendar
Events being considered for 2020 include a Mother's Day Promotion. Bringing back the glory days of Boutique Blowout. Holding an outside Summer Dance Party.
Also under consideration is filling the seats of local restaurants with a Savor Andover Week. Going upscale with a Classic Car Show. And hosting a Local-Restaurant-Catered Long Table Dinner — I mean really looooong and setup outside — smack-dab in the middle of downtown.
Old Town Hall Parking Redesign
Lisa Schwarz shared a conceptual rendering of changes coming to the municipal parking lots behind Old Town Hall. The project improves the two lots’ striping, traffic circulation, and drainage, and it makes the area compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The new design is also more pedestrian friendly. And it adds open space for outdoor dining and for outside activities and programs, such as the planned Summer Dance Party.
NOTE: Below is a Conceptual Rendering only. Detailed, accurate Engineering plans are underway, and will evolve, based on required widths, drainage and other engineering requirements.
Valet Service Launches in Downtown
As first reported here — Is Valet Parking Coming to Downtown Andover? — the Andover Select Board voted in December to restrict three parking spaces in front of 27 Main Street for the purpose of valet parking.
Paul LaRosa, owner of both La Fina Restaurant and LaRosa’s, has now launched the service. Valet parking is available from 5 to 10pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.
In addition to making dining downtown more convenient, the valet service also opens up more Main Street parking spaces for businesses other than the LaRosa-owned restaurants. Plus, it should prevent traffic congestion caused by diners slowing down and circling the area in search of a parking space. Below Paul LaRosa describes the benefit of the service and Selectman Dan Koh explains his support for it. For the full discussion, click here.
